- 1) Open Adobe Photoshop (duh) and make a new image with the dimensions 10x20 (10 width, 20 height). Make sure the background is set to transparent.
- 2) Zoom into the canvas (ctrl++ for the keyboard shortcut) as much as possible. The limit is usually 1600%.
- 3) Select the Marquee selection tool
(the first tool on your toolbar. If you don't see it, right click where it should be and select it.) MAKE SURE THE FEATHERING OPTION IS SET TO ZERO. If the feather option is set to anything greater than zero, the selection will turn into something like a circle and you wouldn't get the result you want. On the top bar, change your options to Fixed Size and make sure your width and height are both set to 10.
- 4) Now you should have a selection marquee on the screen set the dimensions specified. Move the top of the selection to the top of the screen. You can make a selection by clicking within the selection and holding down the left mouse button while moving it.
- 5) Using the Paint Bucket tool, fill in the selected area with black. (If the Paint Bucket tool is not visible, but you see the gradiant tool
, right click the gradiant tool and select the Paint Bucket tool.) Also make sure that the Paint Bucket's Tool option is set to Foreground and not Pattern. These options are at the top of the screen when the Paint Bucket tool is selected.
- 6) Now deselect by clicking outside of the canvas or right clicking inside of the canvas and selecting "Deselect."
- 7) Next, go to Edit > Define Pattern to make the image a pattern. Name the pattern if you want and click ok.
- Now you're done! To use the pattern, click the Paint Bucket Tool and go to the dropdown menu to change "Foreground" to "Pattern." To make horizontal scanlines, rotate the canvas (Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CW) before saving it as a pattern.
